Straight from the OctoProctor depths, here’s our latest release — OctoProctor v5.5.1. This version focuses on stronger authentication, smarter face detection, and smoother test-taker journeys across all browsers. Let’s dive into what’s new.

Two-factor authentication is now available

Security just leveled up. OctoProctor updates now include support for two-factor authentication (2FA) using time-based one-time password (TOTP) codes. The feature is available for Manager and Administrator roles. You can enable it right in your admin interface.

This update ensures an extra layer of security for administrative access. It helps institutions safeguard client data and comply with international security standards. Exam security starts long before test time — and this update makes your proctoring platform even more resilient.

Faster, smarter face detection

Another highlight of this release is the improved performance of our face detection algorithm on the front end. Speed has increased by up to 45%. Frames per second (FPS) are higher, and one-shot duration in milliseconds is shorter.

For test takers, this means less CPU load on their browsers. Accuracy and detection quality stay the same. For institutions, it means more reliable live proctoring with fewer false alerts. The system works smoothly even in poor lighting. Online proctoring should be seamless without requiring powerful hardware or perfect conditions.

Cleaner interface for job management

We’ve updated the Jobs interface to make it easier to follow what’s happening with your scheduled tasks. The fields now behave more logically and consistently.

  • When a job is planned but not yet started: Next run is shown, while Last run and Duration stay empty.
  • When a job is running: Last run is filled, Duration shows a loading indication, and for non-repeating jobs, Next run stays empty.
  • When a job finishes: Duration is filled with the final time.
  • If errors occur: the Errors field is filled in.

These changes give administrators a clearer view of job progress and outcomes. This is especially useful for those managing hundreds (or even thousands) of sessions. The result is a better overall experience for administrators running remote proctoring sessions.

Browser compatibility improvements

A better experience, regardless of how or where you connect. This release includes several important fixes for online proctoring sessions:

  • Video streams now auto-restart properly in Firefox and Safari — no more manual refreshing.
  • Mobile browser detection has been corrected for accurate behavior on all devices.
  • Countdown timers now display correctly, even when exceeding 24 hours.
  • WebSocket reconnection has been fixed, restoring stable communication after brief drops.

Update available now

All OctoProctor Cloud users have already received the update — no action needed on your end. For on-premise or custom deployment customers, your customer success manager will be in touch with upgrade options.

As always, thank you for being part of our Octo journey. If you’d like to explore these new features in action, reach out — we’d love to show you how OctoProctor keeps advancing the future of proctoring software.
