Proctoring tools, built mainly to ensure academic integrity, can sometimes unintentionally limit or complicate the use of assistive technologies. The surveillance and restriction mechanisms built into these tools can clash with the flexibility accessibility often requires.

Still, we’re committed to making online assessments both fair and inclusive. Share your specific accessibility needs with us, and we’ll work together to  balance security with usability.

Dependency on external factors

Some accessibility limitations are shaped by factors beyond our platform. This includes:

  • The accessibility of a client’s existing LMS
  • Test organization policies or exam rules
  • Exam content design (e.g., lack of alternative test or graphics-heavy content)

Because of this, the level of accessibility compliance may vary across different assessments. However, we work closely with our clients and share best practices to continually enhance inclusivity.

Our approach toward accessibility

Technology

Our team stays on top of evolving accessibility standards and technology improvements, continually updating our proctoring software to incorporate the latest improvements.

Education & guidance

We work with clients, test organizations, and partners worldwide, and listen to test-taker feedback, to support accessible assessment practices. We also guide the creation of exam environments that meet diverse test-taker needs.

Accessibility tools OctoProctor supports

We strive to make our platform work well with commonly used assistive technologies. However, compatibility can vary based on external system configurations.
