ProctorEdu Inc. dba OctoProctor (“we,” “us,” “our,” or “OctoProctor”) is committed to operating in an environmentally responsible manner. This Environmental Policy (“Policy”) sets out the principles and practices that guide our approach to environmental sustainability.
OctoProctor is a Software-as-a-Service company providing online proctoring solutions. We operate as a predominantly remote organization, with no owned data centers, no company vehicles, and a minimal physical footprint. Our principal registered address is 111 Pier Ave STE 100, Hermosa Beach, CA 90254, United States.
This operational profile means our environmental impact is concentrated in three areas: cloud infrastructure, office and employee energy use, and occasional business travel. This Policy is scoped accordingly.
This Policy applies to all OctoProctor employees, contractors, and consultants.
All OctoProctor services run on Amazon Web Services (AWS). We do not own or operate physical servers.
Our practices:
AWS environmental profile. AWS maintains ISO 14001 certification. According to Amazon's 2024 Sustainability Report, Amazon matched 100% of the electricity consumed across its global operations, including AWS, with renewable energy in 2023. Further details are available at sustainability.aboutamazon.com. We use the AWS Customer Carbon Footprint Tool to monitor the emissions attributable to our infrastructure usage.
OctoProctor operates as a predominantly remote company, with most team members working from locations of their choosing. This materially reduces the environmental costs associated with traditional office settings, including daily commuting, facility energy consumption, and office waste.
We encourage team members to:
Travel is the exception, not the norm. When travel is necessary, employees are expected to:
Our core service displaces the need for physical testing centers, which carry significant energy, transportation, and paper costs. By enabling examinations to be taken remotely, OctoProctor helps testing institutions reduce:
We do not make quantified emissions-reduction claims on behalf of clients, but we believe the shift from in-person to online proctoring can contribute to reduced environmental impact for testing institutions.
When purchasing equipment for company use, we prefer energy-efficient and durable products, giving weight to recognized efficiency labels such as ENERGY STAR and the EU Energy Label where available. Electronic equipment that reaches end of life must be recycled rather than disposed of in general waste, through a recycler that is certified or authorized under the standards of the jurisdiction in which disposal takes place.
Recognized examples include:
OctoProctor complies with applicable environmental laws in the jurisdictions where we operate. Given our operational profile — a remote-first SaaS business with no owned facilities, data centers, or company vehicles — the environmental obligations that apply to us are principally those governing the disposal of end-of-life electronic equipment, which is handled in accordance with the requirements of the jurisdiction in which disposal takes place.
We review this Policy periodically, typically on an annual basis, and update it as our operations evolve or as new regulations or best practices emerge. We welcome employee suggestions for reducing our environmental footprint and will act on practicable improvements.
