ELL Students

ELL (English Language Learner) students are individuals who are in the process of acquiring proficiency in the English language while also receiving instruction in academic content. ELL students are typically non-native English speakers who are learning English as an additional language to their first language.

ELL students may have varying levels of English language proficiency, ranging from beginner to advanced. They require specialized support and instructional strategies that promote language development and academic achievement. This support may include English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, sheltered instruction, bilingual education programs, or targeted interventions.

Educators working with ELL students employ instructional techniques that focus on developing English language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They also emphasize the integration of language instruction with content areas such as mathematics, science, and social studies to facilitate language acquisition and academic progress.

Supporting ELL students involves creating a culturally inclusive and linguistically responsive learning environment that values students' diverse backgrounds and experiences. It involves implementing differentiated instructional approaches, providing scaffolding, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive classroom community.
