We’ve rebranded to reflect who we’ve become: a science-based, privacy-focused proctoring platform designed for modern education, certification, and workforce assessments. OctoProctor represents our commitment to smarter, more adaptable, and test-taker-friendly remote proctoring.
Online proctoring isn’t just about catching cheating — it’s about creating secure, smooth, and human-friendly assessment experiences at scale. With each release, OctoProctor pushes that vision further.
Our latest OctoProctor update (v5.5.0) includes foundational upgrades that improve performance, accessibility, reporting, and user control — both for test takers and exam organizers.
As always, OctoProctor updates are already available to all our cloud customers. If you’re using an on-premise version, now’s the time to plan your upgrade — our Customer Success team is ready to help you transition smoothly and enjoy all the benefits of v5.5.0.
If you’re ready to explore these changes, check the full changelog, or schedule a walkthrough with our team. Whether you rely on live proctoring, automated monitoring, or a hybrid model, you’ll find improvements that reduce friction, boost transparency, and strengthen your academic integrity workflows.
Let’s explore what’s new.
We now support LTI 1.3 — the industry standard for seamless, secure connection between learning tools and LMS platforms. Whether you're using Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, or another provider, you can now register OctoProctor dynamically using just one link. Though LTI 1.3 was introduced some time ago, we waited for broader LMS adoption to ensure maximum compatibility before rollout.
On-premise installations can now rely on official, verified images for components like MongoDB, MinIO, and Coturn — removing the need for custom packages thus simplifying maintenance.
Now, if a session is left hanging, it won’t stay open forever. OctoProctor automatically wraps it up after your pre-set expiration period, helping keep your data secure and storage optimized.
Test interrupted? Proctors and admins can now restart proctoring sessions directly, without resetting everything from scratch. This update makes it easier to handle edge cases without disrupting exam flow.
As always, OctoProctor continues to strengthen platform security, helping institutions stay compliant with global standards while protecting sensitive data and maintaining exam integrity. For security reasons, we do not disclose details about security fixes, but you can always visit our Trust Center to check the results.
Mobile camera feeds are now buffered locally—just like desktop recordings. If a user’s internet connection drops, the system will store footage for up to five minutes and sync it once the connection returns. This is a major upgrade for mobile-enabled proctoring, especially in low-bandwidth scenarios.
When mobile camera recordings fail to save, the platform now logs this as a measurable event (n3 — Records are not saved). This helps institutions monitor recording integrity and troubleshoot technical issues faster.
Proctors and test reviewers can now navigate reports more confidently, with better-aligned video and activity data.
A small but impactful UX improvement: the Floating Action Button (FAB) now clearly indicates where the control menu lives, making the interface easier to navigate—especially for first-time users.
When test takers encounter a lock screen, it now comes with a caption that explains what’s happening. This reduces confusion and helps manage test anxiety during exam sessions.
OctoProctor now ensures exam security without relying on the Window Management permission, which was previously used to monitor or restrict window switching and multi-display activity. Advances in browser capabilities and our own detection algorithms have made this permission obsolete. The results are a smoother onboarding flow, fewer system prompts, and a more privacy-friendly experience—especially valued by institutions with strict privacy requirements.
Session reports now display incident types alongside their assigned severity weights — like “mobile camera disconnected” or “several faces detected.” While each organization configures its own set of metrics (and OctoProctor offers a lot to choose from!) and weights based on their requirements, this new visualization helps reviewers see everything clearly in one place. It improves consistency in interpreting online proctoring incidents, makes large-scale reviews faster, and helps focus attention where it matters most.
Mac users, we see you. Safari and Safe Exam Browser are known for complex update cycles, but we keep up so you don’t have to. This fix improves video playback performance and ensures consistent online proctoring evidence capture across platforms.
This bug only affected rare, high-complexity scheduling scenarios in live proctoring. It’s now fixed — available time slots will always appear as expected in dynamic scheduling environments.
A smoother LTI 1.3 experience all around: this fix eliminates a confusing error that occurred when test takers tried to re-access a proctoring session that was abandoned unintentionally. This streamlines the session flow, especially in LMS-integrated environments.
A: LTI 1.3 is the modern standard for connecting learning tools to LMS platforms like Moodle, Canvas, or Blackboard. It enables a secure connection and dynamic registration—meaning fewer steps for IT teams, less manual configuration, and tighter exam security.
A: Absolutely. Several fixes and enhancements—like session restart, scheduler improvements, and better reporting—are especially valuable in live proctoring scenarios.
A: Yes. The online proctoring system check is now more stable across mobile and desktop, and the UI has been improved with clearer navigation, better labels, and mobile-friendly fallback options.
