With OctoProctor v5.9.0, we continue our journey toward greater accessibility. In the previous release, we focused on accessibility improvements for administrators, and now we’ve brought important updates for test takers, making visual information more inclusive and navigation more intuitive for screen reader users.
All login fields now include programmatically associated labels, so screen readers can communicate each field’s purpose more accurately. This simplifies the login process for users who rely on assistive technologies, helping them understand each field and complete it with confidence.
For test organizations, this means providing better support for users with different accessibility needs, expanding access to learning and assessment opportunities, and meeting accessibility compliance requirements.
All images, including face photos and passport scans, include descriptive alt text, and text labels accompany color-based status indicators.
This enables all users, including those relying on assistive technology, to clearly understand visual content. It also reduces ambiguity by providing textual cues alongside visual indicators.
We’ve hidden unnecessary visual distractions from the interface, so screen reader users can focus only on meaningful content. This eliminates visual clutter, makes navigation easier, and reduces confusion, creating a more intuitive experience for test takers.
At the same time, these updates help institutions align with WCAG accessibility guidelines, ensuring their exams are compliant with recognized accessibility standards.

Ensuring exam integrity in proctoring requires addressing multiple risks, including unauthorized browser extensions and camera feeds. In the v5.9.0 proctoring software update, we’ve taken a major step to tackle these threats.
We all know that third-party browser extensions can sometimes be used to bypass proctoring, which is why lockdown browsers became so popular with test organizations. Our proctoring software automatically blocks browser extensions during the exam session. Now, there’s no need for a separate secure exam browser, so test takers can take their exams safely in the default browser.
The feature runs seamlessly during exams, helping test organizers support compliance and secure exam integrity.
OctoProctor has updated the virtual and remote camera blacklist, adding dozens of known virtual cameras and unauthorized feeds.
This helps avoid:
By blocking these methods, institutions gain greater confidence in the integrity of their assessments.

We refined label localizations to Traditional Chinese (Taiwan) and French locales, making the platform more intuitive for users across regions. These updates ensure clear and consistent messaging, helping international test takers navigate the system confidently and enjoy a smooth, hassle-free proctoring experience.
Assessment results become clearer and easier to understand thanks to the introduction of a more logical structure.
Now, administrators can instantly see:
This way, institutions get a complete view of exam outcomes directly within the proctoring system.

We simplified the add-on configuration, making it easier and more transparent for administrators. New add-ons, including vcam, scorm, timelog, and live were added, giving administrators more flexibility to customize exam sessions.
We’ve also added a clear message for administrators when deleting test taker accounts that have an active session. This prevents accidental account deletions and helps ensure that test takers are not left frustrated or disrupted.
OctoProctor’s proctoring platform now includes logging functionality in WebSDK, providing detailed records of system activity during exam sessions.
The logging runs seamlessly in the background (provided you launch it manually), giving development and support teams the insights they need to maintain uninterrupted performance.
In practice, accurate logs allow developers to quickly pinpoint issues and understand what went wrong. This ensures institutions experience stable system performance, faster issue resolution, and reduced downtime.
We also updated NPM libraries and brought the backend into alignment with the new versions to improve system stability and lay a strong foundation for future development and scalability.
At OctoProctor, we understand there’s no exam without test takers, administrators, and proctors. Accessibility is a core part of exam integrity, and we’re committed to continuous improvement.
We understand that the journey toward accessible proctored exams is challenging, but we’re moving forward to make online exams fair, secure, and accessible for everyone.
